Your kitchen, your data.

This page says what actually happens to what you tell Lyra. It describes the code as it is today, not what we hope to build.

When you speak to Lyra

The recording is never saved.

The sound of your voice is held only while Lyra works out the answer. It is not written to a database, a file, or a log. Nothing keeps it after the reply.

It is sent to Google to be understood.

Lyra cannot make sense of speech on her own. The sound goes to Google for that. It is not turned into a written transcript along the way.

What Lyra understood is kept.

Lyra keeps what she understood, the same as if you had typed it. Tell her you have half a jar of sauce, and that is what is stored, in the words you used. It becomes ordinary household data.

Today that data has no automatic expiry. It stays until you delete it, and the delete button is not built yet.

If you type as well as speak, the text you typed is saved like any other message.

While you are cooking the microphone can stay open, so you need not press a button with wet hands. It closes after eight seconds of quiet, and after three minutes at the most.

Replies are read aloud by your own browser. No company hears them.

Who else sees your data

These are the only companies that receive any of it. Each one is used to run the product, and nothing is shared for advertising, profiling, or sale.

  • Google

    What it receives
    The sound of your voice, and what you ask Lyra to do.
    How long it stays
    The recording is not kept there. Anything else sent for planning is covered by Google's own terms.

  • MongoDB Atlas

    What it receives
    Your household data, and the chat history that goes with it.
    How long it stays
    Kept until it is deleted. Backups follow the database's own schedule.

  • Vercel

    What it receives
    The technical details of each request to the site.
    How long it stays
    Kept as part of running the site.

  • Clerk

    What it receives
    Your sign-in details, such as your email address.
    How long it stays
    Kept for as long as your account exists.

There is no analytics or tracking company on this list, because we do not use one.

What is not built yet

These are listed because an absence you can see is worth more than one you find out about later.

  • Downloading a copy of everything. There is no way to do this yet.
  • Deleting everything yourself. There is no button for this yet.
  • A grace period after you ask to delete, before it is final.
